Sticker.Place: Where are you from and where do you live now?
Jared Nickerson: I’m originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia and currently residing in Seattle, Washington
SP: Tell about your stickers’ characters
Jared: The Geometric Gang are currently a trio of friends, all prone to random mental states and fits of pure unfiltered emotion. At parties this can result in a really great time… or the worst party of your life, it’s really a crap shoot.
SP: Which of your illustrations is your favourite?
Jared: When I first met my wife, she was my muse, I’d done a series of illustrations of her over the years, and I think those are my favorites as they hold an emotional value to me and they really helped me progress my illustration style.
SP: Tell about your first illustration.
Jared: So long ago. I can’t remember exactly now, but if we are thinking digital illustration,
I did a few very simple illustrations back in highschool on Corel Draw, back when I was 15 or so. Earlier than that I had played a lot with Microsoft Paint as a child.
If we are talking about actual hand drawn illustrations though… I started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil.
SP: Tell about your background and experience.
Jared: I’m a self-taught illustrator and designer and I’ve been in the industry for 12 years or so now.
I’ve had the honor of working with everyone from Nike to Adidas, Microsoft to Apple, Coke to Pepsi etc. I’ve been fortunate to be able to work with some great clients over the years.
My main tool of the trade is Adobe Illustrator, in fact I use it for about 98% of the design work I do. My main piece of hardware is a Wacom Cintiq 22HD, and my favorite studio companion is my white pug; Persephone.
SP: What are you plans for the future?
Jared: Moving the studio to a warmer climate is the next thing on the list. After that I’d love to get back into product design, mainly footwear. I’ve had a passion for footwear even from a young age and was able to train to be a footwear designer for a number of years, even have a few products in the market right now. I’d love to spark that back up again.
SP: What is your favourite app or game?
Jared: Think one of my most played back in the day was Dungeon Solitaire for iOS… seemed like every time I was sitting idle with my phone, I was playing that game.
