Interview with Simon Oxley

The creator of the Hotdog Flavour Bubblegum sticker pack
Sticker.Place: Where are you from and where do you live now?
Simon Oxley: I am from the UK and resettled here in Oxford after spending 2 yrs in the middle east and 12 yrs in Japan.
SP: Tell us about your stickers – characters.
SO: After trying out lots of flavours from all corners of the globe these characters collectively agreed that ‘Hotdog’ flavour is favourite for bubblegum fun.
SP: Which of your illustrations is your favorite?
SO: My favourite illustration is Octocat, for Github, of course.
SP: Tell us about your first illustration.
SO: I drew my first illustration on a cave wall, it featured a woolly Mammoth and scruffy ancient people throwing hotdogs into its mouth.
SP: Tell us about your background and experience.
SO: Art college made me look busy and avoid getting a proper job for 3 yrs after school - I then worked in various companies making graphics mostly for printed materials. In Tokyo, I worked within a web design company based in Harajuku and mostly designed annual reports while occasionally producing designs for web pages and illustrations. Outside of work I spend time with my 2 teenage boys and Japanese wife, sightseeing and arguing - I have recently been making models with silicon rubber moulds and plaster.
SP: What are your plans for the future?
SO: I would like to travel more and spend time making things in wood and clay etc. I enjoy being tasked with creating mascots and hope to gain many requests and see the resulting characters in real life 3D as costumes or sculptures.
SP: What is your favorite app or game?
SO: I don't personally play any games or use apps - I feel if I gain an interest in these diversions I may not do any drawing? My children keep me informed of these things though.
